ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Art Museum Presents Peter Anton: Just Desserts

A solo sculpture exhibition of Peter Anton’s enormous, inedible sweets will be on view May 10 through July 27 at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Art Museum's Walsh Gallery.

The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Art Museum is pleased to present Peter Anton: Just Desserts, a solo exhibition of Anton’s incredibly realistic, oversized pop sculptures of desserts, on view from May 10 through July 27.

Anton’s models for his array of desserts come from products that are instantly familiar to the viewer and evoke nostalgia for childhood (and adult) favorites. Sculptures featured in the exhibition include a melting chocolate-covered ice cream pop, a candy apple, a gigantic box of donuts, and an enormous box featuring a deluxe assortment of chocolates, with one empty brown paper candy cup.

ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Art Museum Executive Director Carey Weber said, “I am delighted that we are able to present this exuberantly fun exhibition featuring the work of an internationally renowned sculptor. It is particularly exciting to have this exhibition in ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, Anton’s hometown, where it can be appreciated by his friends and family, as well as to introduce his artwork to those who may not be familiar with it.”

Located in ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ University Art Museum’s Walsh Gallery, the exhibition is accessible through the museum’s website as a video tour and a 3-D virtual tour.

The museum celebrated the opening of this exhibition on May 9 with a reception and lecture by Amy Nawrocki and Eric D. Lehman, who spoke about centuries of dessert-making in the Nutmeg State. Nawrocki and Lehman are the authors of A History of Connecticut Food. The reception featured free samples of Peter Anton special edition chocolates and ice cream sundaes, with gourmet ice creams and chocolate sauce generously provided by exhibition sponsor BE Chocolat of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ.
