Twins Embark on Study Abroad Journeys Down Under

Amelia Stencel '26 is studying in Australia through �Ӱ�ԭ�� Dolan's Sydney program, while her twin sister, Grace Stencel ’26, is gaining practical experience in �Ӱ�ԭ�� Egan's nursing program at James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville, Queensland.

This semester, �Ӱ�ԭ�� University twins Grace and Amelia Stencel ’26 are embracing unique international experiences with the support of Global �Ӱ�ԭ��. Both are studying in Australia, but they are more than a thousand miles apart: Amelia, a student in the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, is studying business and finance in Sydney, while Grace, a student in the Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, is engaged in a healthcare immersion in the Queensland city of Townsville.

Global �Ӱ�ԭ�� and their respective schools of �Ӱ�ԭ�� Dolan and �Ӱ�ԭ�� Egan have helped the sisters navigate these diverse academic paths in Australia, allowing them to explore their unique personal, professional, and academic interests. Amelia chose Australia for its unmatched landscapes and the opportunity to learn about global business culture through an international internship. Grace welcomed the opportunity to experience an overseas healthcare immersion, aligning with �Ӱ�ԭ�� Egan’s nursing curriculum goals.

Prior to arriving in Australia, the twins leveraged support from Global �Ӱ�ԭ�� to guide them through the process and equip them for their study abroad experience. “The pre-departure Zooms were extremely helpful to me,” said Amelia. “They were very informative and only talked about my program, which helped when specific questions arose."

Since arriving in Australia, the Stencel twins have fully immersed themselves in their studies and the local culture. Through the AIFS Business Program (American Institute for Foreign Studies) at University of Sydney, international business classes have provided Amelia with valuable insights into global finance and her internship has helped her gain practical experience and learn about Australian corporate culture. She has enjoyed exploring Australia’s iconic coastal sites, including the Great Barrier Reef and Bondi Beach.

At the healthcare immersion program at James Cook University in Townsville, Grace's focus has been on adaptable healthcare skills essential for any region. “Working with so many different patients over the course of three weeks has given me the opportunity to become close to them and learn from them," she said. "My work in the hospital has given me a unique experience I will be able to bring back to �Ӱ�ԭ��.”

The Stencel sisters are excited to bring back their insights and newfound perspectives on international business and nursing practices. They look forward to sharing their experiences with their peers and they hope to inspire more �Ӱ�ԭ�� University students to explore the opportunities offered through Global �Ӱ�ԭ��’s programs.
